Recording ideas
Recording well could gain you 20 marks for your project. Recording can be through writing or pieces of work. It is similar to experimentation but the idea is to record an idea you have originally then you can experiment with different techniques with it later. Recording can be ideas from your head which need to be labelled carefully so the examiner can see what you were thinking when you created a piece, and how it helped you express an idea or progress in your project.
Recording from life
Recording from life is a large chunk of this section.
If you are exploring an abstract theme like 'Dream', record from life, such as drawing a person then explain why this would be helpful to your project or how you could turn the drawing into a dream. For expalme, you could cut it out and stick it on a dreamlike background

Recording through photography
When you see an object you like or that inspires you, take a photo of it. Copying things from the internet wont get you as many marks but taking your own photographs will. Also, if you record from life, you can then take a picture of the thing/place you recorded from so the examiner can see where you where/compare them. Recording from a photograph doesn't give the same depth as recording from life. You can later edit your photos on Photoshop or Picmonkey.
Also remember to label your photos as your own to gain full credit for them if you took them: Examiners prefer these Primary Sources (which means you drew directly from observation or took a picture) so use as many as possible but Secondary Sources (mainly from the internet or books) might be necessary in some cases. Tip: For example, if you visit a gallery and forget to sketch something you saw there, you can find and sketch from a picture of it later online and say you drew it from observation. Just don't claim the photograph is yours and avoid actually tracing. Be aware that you might not get all the light and shade to make the piece look 3D when copying from a photo.
